Cookie - Biomycin shot

We ran to the vet today, to get Cookie a Biomycin shot. It's an antibiotic, that also helps to stop the runs.

While taking the top cap off the needle, I poked my right index finger. I hit a nerve. OUCH!

Wormer

We gave all the other goats their oral dose of Cydectin today. Much easier to push their dose into their mouths with a syringe, than try and make sure they all eat the proper amount of the other dewormer.

Cookie, Franny

We took Cookie to the vet, as she was worse. We got the results of Franny's autopsy:

DIAGNOSIS: Hepatocellular degeneration, centrilobular, moderate, liver
Mild abomasitis

COMMENT: The histopathologic findings in the liver suggest a stomachworm infestation.

Looks like Franny died of stomach worms. :( We had not wormed the goats since the spring as it's been so dry because of the drought. I told the vet that, and that we didn't think worms would be a problem when it was so dry. She said normally it wouldn't be, except we are in a high worm infestation area. Well, now that we know that, it won't happen again!

She gave Cookie an oral dose of Cydectin, an anti-wormer. And we bought a bottle to bring home to five to the other goats.

Cookie

Cookie appears to be the only one still having problems. Her temp this morning was 102.2, which is fine for a goat. :) Her gums do appear to be white.

Barn

We mucked out the barn today. We put it all on the Garden of Mystery.
We spread lime on the floor before putting new hay down.
D moved the hay rack from inside the barn to under the overhang in front. He put up a small wall to protect it from the rain.

Frannie

We check on Frannie 1st thing this morning. She was laying down, glassy eyes, could barely hold her head up. On second check, she couldn't even hold her head up. When we picked up her head, she just moaned, and flopped back over. We called the vet, and rushed Frannie to see her. Frannie died in the van, 5 minutes after we got there. We are having an autopsy done. Won't get the results for about 9 days.

New Chickens

We got 5 new chickens today. 4 hens and 1 rooster from Squirrels brother. I'm not sure what kind they are. Ray said they were Longstalks. I haven't looked that up, but they look similiar to Long Island Reds.
